Tyler Prell, a Senior Advisor with New Heights Communications, brings more than two decades of experience providing strategic communications counsel to local, state and national progressive advocacy, labor, nonprofit and political organizations. Tyler has worked with more than 100 different organizations to help them plan and implement the full range of strategic communications services.
As an advisor with New Heights since 2017, Tyler has worked with dozens of clients dedicated to raising the voices of working people, fighting climate change and better using data and technology to create social change. Tyler advised the American HIking Society on an organizational analysis and strategic planning process that helped define their niche within the outdoor/conservation advocacy environment.
Prior to New Heights, Tyler served as Deputy Communications Director for the two-million member Service Employees International Union (SEIU). In that role, Tyler managed a 50-person Communications Department with a multi-million dollar annual budget, crafted development of SEIU’s brand, public messaging, guided work with pollsters and digital consultants and directly supervised creative, video and digital teams.
While working for The Hauser Group, Tyler helped Houston janitors organize their first-ever union as a focal point of the Justice for Janitors campaign and crafted communications strategy for a long-term campaign to persuade the National Football League (NFL) to create more head coaching opportunities for African Americans. The extensive media coverage that followed resulted in the enactment of the “Rooney Rule,” which requires all NFL teams to interview a diverse candidate slate for all open head coaching positions.
Tyler has a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Denison University in Granville, Ohio and lives in Northwest Washington, DC with his wife and son. He is a current MSW student at the National Catholic School of Social Service (NCSSS) at The Catholic University of America.
